Check-in: Calais to Eryri

I can’t remember the last full weekend I had completely off, to myself, where I was free to do what I liked. I want to reflect, I want to write. So much has happened since I wrote about my stunning stint in CHUB 8 months ago (read more). Despite it being my last entry, I’ve had more transformative experiences, but just lacked the time + mood, that sweet spot, to flow freely to the melodies humming within.

So what has happened?

Let’s do this chronologically.

It was April, during the final days of Ramadan, when I shared my experiences in CHUB then embarked on a series of hikes + expeditions into early June as I achieved my Mountain Leader Award qualification.

My summer months into September were busy yet felt muddled. I joined a couple more private medical companies, experienced loads of new events, explored how to venture further into the outdoors, deliberated on my next steps in my clinical career, revisited my social + political justice roots + interests, and delved further into my passion around grief + bereavement, specifically baby + pregnancy loss. PHEW, that list was a lung-full!

I enjoy the colours of Autumn, and although I didn’t play outside near enough the amount I would have liked, it was a colourful October + November. I finally re-joined London Ambulance Service in CHUB after 5 months of HR hoops + hurdles, grew more into my voluntary role with Care4Calais (C4C), and had curated loads of exciting plans + pathways for the future!

Speaking of C4C, I had an incredible bittersweet experience in Calais volunteering for them towards the end of November, now find myself in a static caravan bracing the wild December winds of Eryri. It’s my time in Calais that inspired me to pluck my virtual pen from the abyss, whilst I’m excited to document the upcoming weeks I will be spending in Eryri. I have so much to be grateful for, including the ability to share so much.
