‘the element of place’
Just take a moment to ask yourself: what do you think, how do you feel, what do you see when you close your eyes and think of the word free?
(sit, + ease the tension in your limbs and torso. relax, + let go of everything else and feel yourself in the moment. breathe, and let your imagination paint pictures).
Now don’t worry, I won’t be upset if you drew a ‘buy one, get one free’ sign from your local market! So to break away from everyday commerce, allow me to add further spices to the stove and let it simmer: freedom…freethinking…freehearted…freestyle…freelance…freeform…freeflow.
Congratulations! You have just replicated the process I performed when formulating this element. I wanted a notion that captured those moments + excursions where there were no limits or constraints with what I was doing and how. Where I broke the mould, got off the beaten track even more than usual, diverged, transcended, rebelled, and reaped the rewards! Something that underscores the value of being creative, spontaneous, daring, flexible, and unconventional.
Intensity
After some sizzling and stirring, my infusion of ideas effused the word #FREESCENCES.
#FREESCENES are places you stumble upon and discover that enamour you with your immediate surroundings due to the sensations they reveal, the feelings they evoke, and the people you may have experienced all this with. It’s the intensity of these sensations + feelings that makes these places #FREESCENCES, but more importantly, what they come to mean to you thereafter.
What sensations + feelings?
Love. Peace. Happiness. Passion. Strength. Hope. Tranquillity. Power. Ecstasy. Euphoria. Vigour. Belonging. Joy. Awe. Bewilderment. Stamina. Desire.
ANYTHING intense.
High Value
To elaborate on what makes #FREESCENCES unique, take summits on hills and mountains, or landmarks in many towns and cities. Summits carry high value due to their prominence, whilst landmarks are imbued with high value due to their perceived social/cultural/political/economic/historical significance.
#FREESCENCES are unique to you because of the meaning(s) [of high value] you endow the relevant place, or places, with. They are your summits and landmarks, and can be whatever place you like them to be.
Freedom
The sensations, feelings + high value you endow these spaces with can be derived from anything. A simple or defining, life-changing moment, journey, story, event, wider experience, achievement, person or people; anything you like.
But what distinguishes this space from others is the extent by which you could BE YOURSELF when present.
There were no rules, conflicts, tensions, norms to appease, or expectations to please. You no longer contained, controlled, ignored, diluted or denied how you felt or what you wanted to do, in the moment. Instead, you let your ideas, thoughts, feelings run wild, centre stage. In doing so, you felt TRULY ALIVE.
People make places, places empower people. #FREESCENCES will find you, if you don’t find them, or maybe you will be drawn to each other. It is a blessing to discover one another.
